The Canary Islands Best Kept Secrets: Reach New Naked Heights with Rafael, our Hiking Guide
After interviewing an Everything To Sea traveler in one of our recent blog posts, we thought weβd continue the fun, so we interviewed someone who handles one of our βOff-The-Beaten-Path Activities.β Meet Rafaelβour cheeky Naked Hiking Guide for The Naked Canary Islands Villa. Heβs ready to show you the best of Gran Canaria, all while embracing the freedom of naked hiking. In this chat, he shares his journey into bare-adventure and tips for a fun, carefree island experience.
Hi Rafi, how did you hear about us? How did it all start?
RafiΒ :Β I actually came across Everything To Sea for the first time on social media. And I remember thinking, βWow! These guys are doing naked sailing, how cool is that?β And I just thought, βThis is something really special.β
At some point, I decided to reach out to the owners to tell them about my naked hiking trips here. And right away, they were super excited and responsive. Six months later, I got a message from Dave and Max saying, βHey, Rafi! Weβre in Gran Canaria, and weβd love to meet up!β I was totally surprised. I mean, I never imagined theyβd actually come here!
We met up at a bar in Gran Canaria, and from the moment we started talking, it was non-stop. The whole conversation was just full of energy and excitement. It was such a great connection from the start!
How did you start organizing naked hikes? Can you tell us a little bit about that?
Rafi: I started with regular sightseeing daytrips, taking visitors beyond the usual tourist spots. Then I heard about naked hiking groups in the Maspalomas area. I loved the concept but wanted to take it further. I wanted to take people into the lush, green valleys where there are waterfalls, streams, and vibrant nature all around. Thatβs when it all clicked, and I developed trips in nature, offering incredible naked hiking adventures in Gran Canariaβs most beautiful landscapes.

Could you share with us one of your favourite moments during your hikes?
Rafi: Well, thereβs a special spot near the end of the hikeβway up in the mountainsβwhere we come across this cave. And as we step inside, I always tell the group, βAlright, guys, welcome to natureβs darkroom!β (laughs) It always gets a few chuckles.
And then thereβs the part where we go deep into the jungle, the path gets very narrow with plants brushing up against your skin. Someone always asks, βAre there any dangerous animals here?β I like to keep the mood light, so I say, βOh yes, crocodiles and snakes.β (laughs) But then I pause, look down at myself, and add, βBut the most dangerous thing hereβ¦ is right in front of you!β

Just for people who donβt know about the nudist culture in The Canary Islands… what’s so special about it?
Rafi: Nudity has been welcome in the Canary Islands for many, many years. People here are really open-minded, and you can be naked in so many places, in the villages and out in nature… itβs totally normal.
There are hundreds of beaches where you can walk around without clothes, and so many beautiful nudist spots all over the island. A lot of them are these stunning, rocky coves with sand and cliffs around them, making them feel really private and special. The Canary Islands are a paradise for naturists.

Letβs learn how to talk the Canarian wayβ¦ do you have any interesting idioms or slang in The Canary Islands?
Rafi: βLa vida es un carnaval!β Here in the Canary Islands, βlife is a celebration.β People spend the whole week thinking about the weekend. The Canary Islands put on one of the worldβs largest carnivals, second only to Brazil. For almost two months, people dress up, dance, and party, and the moment it ends, theyβre already planning next yearβs costumes.
But this saying isnβt just about Carnavalβ¦ itβs a way of life. It reminds us to be happy, open-minded, and enjoy every moment. The Canarian concept is that life is meant to be celebrated!

Thank you, Rafi! You’re a blast. We’re looking forward to walking around naked with you later this month…
